Madison South Rotary

Madison South Rotary was chartered in 1967. We are one of 15 Rotary clubs in Dane County and one of 32,000 clubs worldwide. Madison South Rotary currently has 80 members representing a wide variety of professions.

Madison South Rotary meets every Monday from 12:15 to 1:15 at the Sheraton.
Members are billed quarterly for their dues and meals (see attached sheet for explanation of dues and meals charges).

Our primary fundraiser is the sale of brats and beer on the mornings of UW home football games (our site is on Monroe Street, across from Camp Randall Stadium). All members are expected to work at 3 or more games. The brat stand is not only a great opportunity to get to know our fellow club members better; it produces gross revenues in excess of $50,000 every year. The net proceeds are directed to the Madison South Rotary Foundation. Every year, the Madison South Rotary Foundation distributes more than $35,000 in the form of scholarships and grants to other charitable organizations (see attached sheet for distributions for the most recent years).

We also participate in several Community Service projects. Every winter we host a Bingo/Christmas Party for the residents of the St. Mary's Care Center. The residents enjoy an evening of "high stakes" bingo and we make sure that every resident receives at least one Christmas present. Additionally, the members of Madison South Rotary participate in the Dane County Paint-A-Thon and help staff the UW's Crazy Legs Run every year.

Madison South Rotary supports many local, national and international projects. We provide financial support for fellow member Greg Stroncek as he journeys to Chiapas, Mexico every year to perform cleft palate surgery. We also actively support a girls' school in Kashipur, India.

Rotary's primary international project is polio eradication. Since 1985, Rotary has raised more than $500 million to provide polio vaccine for countries that cannot afford the vaccine themselves. More than 5,000,000 children that would have been paralyzed by polio are healthy today because of Rotary's polio eradication campaign. On July 1, 2002, Rotary began a three-year campaign with a goal of raising enough money to enable us to finish the job of eradicating polio by the end of 2005. Madison South Rotary was the first Rotary club in the world to set a goal of raising the equivalent of $1,000 per member for this noble cause.

If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to talk to our members. We take great pride in knowing that we have made a significant impact on the lives of many people. We hope that you will consider joining Madison South Rotary!
